Protests in Tehran, Iran today

I love a good protest and there appears to a big one going in Tehran today.  For those of you who don’t know, Iran recently held an election and the incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was declared victor.  Whether it was fraud, or he really won the election is definitely up for debate. The protestors wearing green support Mir-Hossein Mousavi–Ahmadinejad’s opposition.

My “downloading is theft” rant

UPDATE: As part of an assignment, I wrote a research paper on this topic that takes this idea a lot further. Piracy and the Myth of Lost Profits

For those of you paying attention to tech news lately, you would have noticed that Pirate Bay’s trial in Sweden has been making headlines.  Of course, articles about Pirate Bay and “download illegally” always spark many comments from many people.  One comment in particular stuck out to me from a Wired article.  Someone said that downloading was “theft”.  I started this post as a comment on that story, but decided I’d post it here instead.

Mawhorter.net forums have been launched.

I’ve created http://forums.mawhorter.net/.  Use them to discuss any issues you may have with any of my projects.  If you need help, have a suggestion, or anything else — the forums are the place to go!

I decided to go with PunBB because… well, I didn’t really have a reason.  I’ve installed most of the other forums but haven’t used PunBB so I figured I’d give it a shot.  It installed without issue and it took a bit of time to customize.  But it is up and running!

So head over to http://forums.mawhorter.net/ and register! Be amazed by the amazing lack of customizations I’ve done to the PunBB default theme.  And above all, have fun.

I hate moving.

I don’t have any internet right now due to my move from Detroit to East Lansing.

I will be back online Sunday between the hours of 6 AM and 11:30 PM courtesy of Comcast.

I’m planning on releasing an updated to facelift shortly after and possibly a new plugin that will allow for drop shadows, strokes, pattern fills, and other Photoshop-esque techniques.

facelift Image Replacement v1.0 is now available.

Facelift started as a test project to replace email addresses in web pages with image representations to prevent spam. It worked, but I lost interest in it and it sat on my hard drive collecting dust.

And that is where it stayed until just recently when I remembered it was there, and realized that it could be used for much more.

I rewrote everything from the ground up and added in many additional features and decided to release it to the public. At the moment there is no license attached but I plan on making it GPL whenever I get around to adding the headers to the tops of the files. So consider this my notification to you. The code is GPL’d.

There are still many additional features that I would like to add but at the moment, the software works. So go ahead and grab a copy and see if it will suit your needs!
